The royal wedding bells will be chiming a week earlier than anticipated in Monaco this upcoming July as Prince Albert has pushed up his wedding in order to make the International Olympic Committee’s bid meeting in Durban, South Africa. The IOC will meet from July 5-July 9, 2011 to choose and announce the country that will host the 2018 Winter Games.
The leading (and only) bids right now are Annecy (France), Munich (Germany), and PyeongChang (South Korea). This is the lowest number of bidding countries since 1988, but the competition is still intense. Bid Reports are due January 11th, but the plot thickens because Munich’s committee chair just unexpectedly stepped down citing health reasons and Annecy has already launched a merchandise line to promote it’s bid. Whew it’s gettin’ good, and obviously the Prince of Monaco isn’t ready to give up his front row seat. I can’t say I blame him. By the way, let’s take a look at him and a look at his bride-to-be, South African swim champ Charlene Wittstock. If I were him, I’d probably move my wedding up too.
